What We Do
Dancing Backwards is an 8-week program combining five weeks of reflective study and three weeks of creative storytelling. Students create a 2-3 minute storytelling project which they upload to our video archive here on DancingBackwards.ca.
The program focuses on the contributions of Canadian women in political leadership and Aboriginal women in governance.
Students delve into the fascinating, important lives of these women and share their discoveries through short videos to complete the picture of Canada’s political history. Her Story + History = Our Story.
Why the name Dancing Backwards?
“Being a woman in politics is like being Ginger Rogers. You have to do all the same dance steps as Fred Astaire, but you have to do them backwards and in high heels.” Ann Richards, former Governor of Texas
